— Macleay Valley Seed Savers
About Us
The Macleay Valley Seed Savers formed in 2022 following the need to formally recognise the value that having strong, healthy, locally climatised seeds and produce and collecting the best seeds for share within the group and a future seed bank in the Macleay Valley.
The volunteers spent hours initialising the progress and luckily through a grant from “Vinnies” the dream became a reality.
A longer term aim is for a seed bank to save the best seeds we grow all over the Macleay Valley for members to access but ideally with the intention of flowing into the wider Macleay Valley community. This will allow us to have control over the quality of seed ensuring we are not using commercial seeds that are imported from overseas that are generally treated with harmful chemicals that potential damage their RNA.
We meet regulary in community halls, in community members’ gardens and where we can share ideas, seeds and some cooling and refreshing drinks and hown grown food from our plants.

Some tips for getting the best seeds include harvesting from the strongest plants, and when purchasing seeds ensure they are:
Open pollenated
Organic (pesticide/treatment free)
Non GMO
Heirloom
